Respond, React, Adapt
article by Textile Futures Research Centre – 12/2012
“Multidisciplinary practice Kinetura has developed these concepts on a much grander scale. With their project Kinetower, creative designer / architects Xaveer Claerhout and Barbara Van Biervliet propose cladding the exterior of a high-rise building with large-scale window elements. These are designed to respond to sunlight or user prompts, changing shape to regulate shade and air flow. By using a material that is rigid when taut but that becomes flexible under prescribed conditions, this metamorphosis transforms the boxy shell into a softer, undulating form.”
