“Signed by architects Claerhout-Van Biervliet and Adriaan Claerhout, the project for the Periscope House has already won numerous awards, from the BLT award to an honorable mention at the Architecture Masterprize, to the Architizer A+Award 2024, even though it is still ‘on paper’.
Specifically, the Periscope House is a completely underground residence; it has a large central patio at the heart of the building and is surrounded by open spaces, both of which are underground.
The idea of an underground building offers multiple advantages, including excellent thermal insulation from heat and cold. Additionally, it has a lower visual impact on the landscape.
